Unable to return to Mission mode after GCS lost failsafe (VTOL, PX4 v1.15.4)

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing an issue with a VTOL aircraft running PX4 v1.15.4, and I’d appreciate some insights or advice.

Here’s what happens:

  • I created a mission with the following sequence: takeoff → transition → back-transition → landing.

  • During flight, a GCS lost failsafe was triggered, and the vehicle entered RTL mode.

  • After the GCS connection was restored, I tried to switch back to Mission mode, but got the following errors:

    • "Switching to mode Mission is currently not possible"

    • "No valid mission available"

Once these messages appear, I can’t resume the mission.

This issue has occurred multiple times.
Initially, after "Switching to mode Mission is currently not possible", I also saw "No manual control input".
To avoid that, I increased the RC loss failsafe timeout to 3600 seconds, but now I only get the "No valid mission available" error instead.

Interestingly, when I tried the same scenario on a fixed-wing aircraft running PX4 v1.13.2, the vehicle was able to return to the mission without any errors.

Has anyone else experienced this issue on v1.15.x, or know what might be causing it?
Is there any change in the mission handling or failsafe logic between v1.13 and v1.15 that could explain this behavior?
