Howdy folks! I’ve been working on an open-source embedded ADS-B receiver called the ADSBee 1090. The idea is to provide an open source, low-cost alternative to ADS-B IN devices like the uAvionix PingRx. I have air traffic data output implemented as MAVLINK1 and MAVLINK2, and am in need of some intrepid beta testers with autopilot-equipped aircraft!
The receiver can also be used for feeding traffic data to a mobile device (GDL90 over WiFi), and to online databases (Mode S Beast over WiFi / Ethernet / USB), if that’s more interesting to you. Right now the device is single band (1090MHz ADS-B, which covers about 95% of aircraft), but my goal is to build a tri-band receiver with 1090MHz ADS-B, 978MHz UAT, and remote ID.
Happy to answer any questions about the project! If you’re interested in joining the project, we have a Discord server and there are still some beta units available. I also have been posting montly updates to the project blog detailing some of the more interesting parts of the design and manufacturing process.
