PX4 Flight Review & Data Retention

Community, I have some news. Starting this month, we are adding a new data retention policy to PX4 Flight Review, the service that Dronecode is running at no cost to all of you. We will be moving to a 12-month data retention for all uploaded logs. This means that starting this month, we will automatically remove everything older than one year.

Why are we doing this? Simply put, the storage costs are beginning to dent our monthly AWS bill, and we need to keep our costs down. We can’t justify a big storage expense for logs that have been collecting dust for months.

How does this impact you? Chances are you never look at logs for longer than a day, but if you have learned to depend on our service, you will need to copy your data and move elsewhere (we recommend you host your own version of flight review). If you are a researcher using the publicly available logs, we recommend you make a copy of the data, too. In the future, you will only be able to access younger than one year old files.

We will continue to offer the free service to the community. Thank you for your trust.

@rroche Might it be worth investing in an update to Flight review to allow earlier deletion?

For example, we could set default deletion at a week or a month, and users have to edit something to set it up to a year.

Just an idea - might not be worth the effort.

I think its possible we can expose more settings to new uploads, whoever older stuff would remain under the current policy since users have no way to change it after its been uploaded. For now we are fine, we saved tons of Terabytes and Dollars!
