Pixhawk 6c no motor cotrol

Hello,
I am in the process of setting up a pixhawk 6c. I set it up based on the Holybro Pixhawk 6C Wiring Quick Start. Utilizing the I/O PWM out per the quick start guide.
The radio is a radiolink AT10ii, the receiver is the R12DS. The receiver is running SBUS and plugged into the PPW/SBUS RC port of the pixhawk.
The guide says the=at the motors need to be run this way. It also states that the FMU PWM out is for servos and must be powered seperately but does not specify that the I/O PWM out needs seperate power.
I am not able to get any motor spin set this way even though all callibrations have been completed successfully.
Any input would be great please.
