I had the same problem. you have to send a heartbeat first (took me a while to find this in the docs).

Pymavlink script not getting heartbeat from pixhawk 6c (sometimes)

I have a jetson nano that object-recognizes a person (me) and then tries to put my pixhawk 6c px4 x-500 into land mode (testing at home). Having trouble … not getting the heartbeat often when I run the pymavlink program. To “coax” the 6c to respond with a heartbeat, it seems I can use QGC. QGC is doing soemthing to get the heartbeat… but what? Any ideas? DO I HAVE TO INITIATE SOMEHOW THE HEARTBEAT, IF SO THEN HOW??? I am trying to send mavlink commands to 6c in response to Jnano object reco…
