We team have been testing a large-scale VTOL UAV platform and exploring PX4-based integration for long endurance missions. I’d like to share some details and get feedback from the community.
Current Platform overview:
- Type: Fuel-activated electric VTOL fixed wing
- Wingspan: ~6.6m (expanded)
- Weight: 137kg (unladen) / 162kg (full fuel)
- Max take-off weight: 200kg
- Payload capacity: up to 55kg
- Endurance: up to 420min (no load), 380min (with 10kg payload)
- Max speed: 42m/s, Cruise: 35m/s
- Wind resistance: Level 7 (fixed-wing mode)
- Altitude limit: 5000m
Mainly hope to be applied to:
Emergency rescue, border inspection, mountain operations, aerial survey, and long-range communication support.
We are particularly interested in hearing from the PX4 community about:
- Best practices for integrating PX4 on large heavy-payload VTOL UAVs
- Tips on optimizing endurance with high payloads
- Experiences with stable transitions between hover and forward flight
Does anyone have any experience to share in this regard?
