The QGC in ubuntu 16.04 is pronouncing a strange English voice. I searched around and find there is a similar issue #7518 stating its fixed. However, I tried both 3.5.5 stable and Daily build, they both have the same weird English voice.
Any idea how to fix that?

@ cjffly. So glad you brought this up. It has been bugging me for a year. My windows version has a nice sounding voice that talks in regular understandable English, but I too use Ubuntu 16.04 for actual flying.
Can someone help resolve this issue? It’s not just a trivial shortcoming. The inability to understand what QGC is saying is a potential hazard and might lead to inappropriate actions on the part of the pilot if the verbal message can’t be understood.
