Request for Guidance on UAV Competition – Disaster Management & Precision Agriculture

Dear Community,

We are excited to share that the Government of India has launched a national-level UAV competition, inviting enthusiasts to develop drone-based solutions for two critical problem statements:

  1. Disaster Management: Teams are required to design and fabricate a custom UAV frame and deploy two drones. The first UAV should scan a 30-hectare flood-affected area to detect and map stranded individuals. The second UAV should autonomously deliver essential supplies to the identified locations.

  2. Precision Agriculture: This task involves designing two drones. The first UAV must survey approximately 3 acres of agricultural land to detect areas affected by crop stress or pest infestations and generate a mapped report. The second UAV should then autonomously spray pesticides specifically over the detected regions.

We are a team of 10 passionate undergraduate students consisting of:

1 Computer Science student

1 Mechanical Engineering student

8 Electronics and Communication Engineering students

Our current hardware resources include:

Pixhawk 6X flight controller

Pixhawk 2.4.8 flight controller

We are seeking expert guidance on either of the above problem statements, including:

Technical advice on drone frame design and component selection

Suitable sensors and modules required for detection, mapping, and spraying tasks

Software tools and recommended algorithms for image processing and autonomous navigation

Additional hardware we may need to procure

As beginners, we are highly motivated and eager to learn, and we believe that with the right mentorship, we can make a meaningful contribution through this competition.

We sincerely appreciate your time and look forward to your valuable insights and recommendations.
