Hi everyone,
I am currently working on a research project involving a custom tail-sitter VTOL and looking into setting up a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) simulation environment.
My goal is to interface a physical flight controller (Cube Orange+ running PX4 Autopilot) directly with X-Plane simulator (XP12) to test the control logic and transition performance.
While there are standard SITL/HITL guides for quadcopters or standard fixed-wings using simulators like jMAVSim or Gazebo, information regarding X-Plane 12 coupled with PX4 HITL for custom/complex airframes (like tail-sitters) seems quite limited.
I would highly appreciate it if anyone could share:
Any open-source X-Plane plugins or GitHub repositories that successfully bridge X-Plane 12 data refs with PX4 MAVLink/HIL messages.
Your experience or workflows if you have successfully conducted HITL with a custom airframe configuration in X-Plane.
I know this is a highly complex setup with potential synchronization and physics mapping bottlenecks. Even if you think this approach is unfeasible or overly problematic, please let me know your thoughts or reasons why! Any insights, feedback, or alternatives would be incredibly valuable.
Thank you in advance!
