I came across the McGuire/Dronecode simulation survey from December 2025, where version-compatibility issues were flagged as one of the most common frustrations in the community — breaking changes between releases, and no clear reference for which Gazebo/ROS2 combinations are actually stable together.
Before spending time compiling one myself, I wanted to check with the community first: does a resource like this already exist? And if you’ve personally hit version-mismatch problems, I’d be glad to know which combination gave you trouble — it would help me understand how much of a gap this actually is.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts you’re able to share.
The remaining question may be whether these combinations are continuously tested together, rather than simply documented as compatible.
For example, a combination might build successfully but still fail during simulator startup, ROS 2 topic exchange, or Offboard control.
A useful community resource could therefore include the exact PX4 commit, Ubuntu/ROS 2/Gazebo versions, middleware and px4_msgs versions, plus reproducible integration test results.
Are you primarily considering a community-maintained reference table, or an automated compatibility-testing workflow?
