Whenever I successfully upload a mission to my fixed wing plane in simulation, it never follows the planned route. Instead, it makes large circles starting at the launch position with no gain in altitude (sometimes the altitude becomes negative). Is this an issue with the connection between simulation and QGroundControl or and issue with how I have planned my missions?

Did you consider that this could also be a tuning issue?
Also, carefully re-check the altitude and altitude frames of the mission.
In the picture you shared the plane is at 100%, but only 6m/s airspeed. This is very low. Do you have any idea why this could be happening?
It seems that the plane never lifts off. I changed to using the Gazebo simulation instead and no longer encountered this issue.
