Prolanv alternate connectors

Reasons for considering the new connectors (Thanks @echoGee):

  • They have specific signal pings, for can bus, and the data that is needed for DS-015
  • Can also do SMBUS with the same connector using the extra data pins, which are convenient for backward compatibility to non CAN-bus enabled autopilot/ companion computer/ Arduino etc
  • Makes it easier to make the packs re-usable
  • Makes it a little easier to handle oscillation, and have multiple batteries
  • Lead time less than four weeks, for up to 50k qty
  • Mechanical prevention of reverse plugging (since the previous one doesn’t have it right)

Questions from the call:

  • Has anyone tried them: @echoGee has prototyped already a BMS system, but not flown.
  • Any idea of MTBF of plugging?: @echoGee, “10000 MTBF for the new connector”
  • Any dimension changes to the original connector: same width (similar), but taller

Alternatives to mandating the connector on the Standard from the discussion

  • Maybe specify a connector as a suggestion
  • Also specify the orientation to the connector relative to the pack

Pricing Comparison

Original Connector Price Alternate Connector Price
Male PDC1510B0001 $1.79 (in qty 10) Male—PDC0120F0001 < 10k units: $3.18
Female PDC1610B0001 $1.86 (in qty 10) Female—PDC0210F0001 <10k units: $2.691

Errata and Feedback

Let me know below if I failed to capture anything the right way, and if there are any updates, or you have feedback on the call format.

Hi,
I would like to implement a replay mode and an SITL mode for the SIH. Can we discuss that tomorrow?
I think with minimal direction to begin with, I should be able to do it.

Thanks,

Romain
